Borrowed and Blue: Grandma’s Garter

August 16, 2012

You’ve all heard that cute little wedding saying “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Well this bride took care of that with just one item:

Something old: this was from her grandma’s wedding

Something new: and was just given to her by her grandma (that means its new to her)

Something borrowed: from grandma for her wedding

Something blue: check out those colors…yep, it’s blue!! (whenever I say that something is blue, I immediately quote Bride Wars when Emma dyed Liv’s hair blue and Liv was screaming in the salon. Amazing movie!!)

Dress on Display (and Veil too)

August 2, 2012

I love finding new ways to display dresses and accessories.

At this particular wedding I had a really tough time finding somewhere to display the dress that made it look as nice as it did in person. All of the windows were blocked or had air conditioners in them so that was out. There were some pretty white doors I tried it against but it didn’t do it justice. The trees were just not cutting it. Hanging in an open doorway caused you to see right through the dress exposing the padding. I was almost ready to give up and just do some fancy editing later on, when I came across the secretary desk. I cleared off the top of it and hung the veil. It was beautiful. So I grabbed the dress one more time and hung it in the doorway next to it. I simply adore it. that desk is so gorgeous. It really made the veil pop.

So often I see really great images display the dress, but the veil pictures tend to be so boring. It just hangs there if it is photographed at all. This gives it life and character and I love it.

The best part of it is that it included a secretary desk that the owner of the house (in this case the bride’s grandma) loved very much and took very good care of. I love personal touches!

Trash the Dress Tips

July 28, 2012

I adore Trash the Dress sessions! Adore!

This is actually from an editorial shoot I did this past week, but with the white dress it definitely works as a wedding dress.

Trash the Dress sessions are simple-put on your white dress and we trash it. It may involved going in water like this one, dripping paint on it, covering it in dirt/mud, climbing trees in it, laying in the grass, etc.

I like to use these shots to decorate the wedding ceremony/reception locations. They make STUNNING images.

Now I know what you’re thinking “ummm, Katie, if I do this to my dress before the wedding to get the images to decorate…what am I going to wear to my wedding?” Simple answer-get a different dress for the session and wear your real dress to your wedding. You can get a cheap wedding dress or a white prom dress on sale and use that for your session. All the glamour, a tenth of the price. Love.

Want one for yourself? Email katie@kmrobinsonphotography.com and we’ll book it while its still warm out and the water is nice!!!

Don’t Forget Mama

July 11, 2012

Here’s one of those things you don’t think about until the morning of your wedding and you are getting dressed: don’t forget, mama of the groom pins the boutonnière on the groom’s lapel in the photos.

Make sure mama is around when the guys are getting ready so she can pop in for the boutonnière photos. Otherwise you’ll be held up for awhile trying to locate her and get her their to get the photos.

Plan ahead and it will save a lot of time!

Hairstyle Idea: Chignon with Curls and Flowers

July 9, 2012

I have super long hair. Like all the way down my back, super long hair.

So when I had to be in a wedding yesterday and my long hair would cover up the adorable cut of my bridesmaids dress I called my stylist, Caressa, of Visible Changes.

She and her coworker Amanda, created the most talked about hairstyles at the wedding for me and my sister. Our hairstyles were very similar…we both had loose buns off to one side with very curly hair. My sister and I created their hair pieces. You can find out how to purchase your own at www.facebook.com/topitoffhats

Love it? Try it yourself and let us know how it works!!

Hairstyle Idea: Half Up With Curls

July 9, 2012

Looking for that perfect hairstyle for your wedding?

Curl you hair and pin up just the top layer. It gets the hair out of your face and gives you a place to secure your veil. Curls scream romance and girliness. Love.

Added Touch of Sweetness

July 5, 2012

Who doesn’t love added details? Of course you’re not going to wear a daisy on top of a  veil and tiara, but for photo purposes, it’s sooo cute!! It adds a touch of girly sweetness to the photos.

I adore these photos…it’s very high fashion and simply stunning! Love.

Bridesmaids: Purple One Shoulder

June 29, 2012

Looking for ideas for your bridesmaids? Try this on for size:

I love this look. It’s a one shoulder purple tea length dress with pink and purple flowers.

This would look stunning with silver strappy high heel sandals or matching purple heels. This would look stunning with curly hair and a pretty sparkly barrette.

Love this look? Share this post with your friends and maybe use it to inspire your own bridesmaids.

Stress Break

June 27, 2012

Feeling stressed with all the wedding planning?

Today I sympathize…my internet was out for nine hours, my cell company sold me a faulty phone so I haven’t been able to use it in a week and a half and every single thing I needed to do today required the internet. I was incredibly stressed.

As I was editing an image for a new blog post I happened to stumble across this older image from a wedding we did last year. Now obviously this lovely lady was in a salon getting ready for the wedding but it made me think of a good idea for all of you:

The next time you feel stressed about all the things you still have to do for your wedding, take twenty five minutes and paint your nails and read a magazine while they dry. It’s only twenty five minutes so it won’t put you behind on anything and it will allow you to relax and not think about all the things that are worrying you. It’s a nice little escape from everything and you get to pamper yourself. Yay!

Let me know what else you like to do when you get stressed. Sound off below with your tips and see if you can help somebody else out!!
