Bridesmaids: Purple One Shoulder

June 29, 2012

Looking for ideas for your bridesmaids? Try this on for size:

I love this look. It’s a one shoulder purple tea length dress with pink and purple flowers.

This would look stunning with silver strappy high heel sandals or matching purple heels. This would look stunning with curly hair and a pretty sparkly barrette.

Love this look? Share this post with your friends and maybe use it to inspire your own bridesmaids.

Stress Break

June 27, 2012

Feeling stressed with all the wedding planning?

Today I sympathize…my internet was out for nine hours, my cell company sold me a faulty phone so I haven’t been able to use it in a week and a half and every single thing I needed to do today required the internet. I was incredibly stressed.

As I was editing an image for a new blog post I happened to stumble across this older image from a wedding we did last year. Now obviously this lovely lady was in a salon getting ready for the wedding but it made me think of a good idea for all of you:

The next time you feel stressed about all the things you still have to do for your wedding, take twenty five minutes and paint your nails and read a magazine while they dry. It’s only twenty five minutes so it won’t put you behind on anything and it will allow you to relax and not think about all the things that are worrying you. It’s a nice little escape from everything and you get to pamper yourself. Yay!

Let me know what else you like to do when you get stressed. Sound off below with your tips and see if you can help somebody else out!!

Five Do and Don’t Tips to Selecting the Right Hair and Makeup Artist for Your Wedding Day

June 23, 2012
I’ve seen a lot of very good, very professional hair and makeup stylists in my day. I’ve also seen some not-so-good ones. So how do you find the ones that will make you look exactly like you want and give you a great experience that you’ll always remember and avoid the ones that arrive looking like they just rolled out of bed, grabbed a tee shirt, and really just want their $20 so they can leave? Here’s a few do and don’t tips to help you find your match:

1. Ask your photographer (and wedding coordinator if you have one) who they recommend. They have been in the business awhile and will have some good recommendations for you on people they know and trust. Don’t just call a salon and ask for prices and select one that way.

2. Ask to see their portfolio. Every hair and makeup artist should have photographs of the work they have done to show you. This may be on their website or if they don’t have a website yet, they should have a portfolio to show you when you meet for your consultation. Don’t just book someone without making sure their style matches your vision.
3. Have a consultation. Meet with your hair and makeup artist to discuss what you want to do. Discuss what they would do to achieve this style for you and how long it would take to achieve that style on your wedding day. Don’t walk in without an idea of what you want to do because if you don’t verbalize what you want, your stylist will not know and you won’t be on the same page.
4. Have a run through. Meet with them the week before and have them style your hair and makeup they way they would on your wedding day. This is good because you can make sure you like the style, you’ll know exactly what to do to achieve it on your wedding day and you’ll have a very good idea about how long it will take you on your wedding day so you can plan accordingly. Don’t just go into blind on your wedding day and hope you get something you like.
5. Make sure you click with your stylist. If you don’t get along wonderfully and communicate well, you will probably end up not being happy with the way you look on your wedding day. Be sure they are professional in the way they talk, act and dress. They will, after all be one of the people you and your girls spend the most time on your wedding day before your ceremony starts and they will be in your photographs and on your wedding video. Your stylist should be able to put you at ease so you are happy and relaxed while you are getting ready. Don’t just hire the cheapest one you can find or just ask a friend to do it (unless they are professional or almost professional)
As long as you find a friendly stylist who is professional in their manner and attire, knows their business (making you look fabulous), and communicates well, you will have a great day getting ready and you will be happy with the way you look all day long.Be sure to check out our:Website  *  Facebook *  Blog *  Bridal Blog *  Twitter * Senior Photography Blog

Hair Inspiration: White Flower Wreath

June 13, 2012

I have always adored flowers in hair. So much, in fact, that for a year in high school I looked like I belonged in Hawaii, on the beach. haha And while wearing flowers were popular back then, they’re starting to be popular again. You can find them in all sorts of music videos, red carpet events, etc. And your wedding day is no exception.

This is Odette. Not the girl, the hairpiece. Top It Off! by Dazzling Diamond Designs has created this hair piece to feed my love of all things beautiful and girly.

There is the main wreath of flowers worn in back and then two loose flowers on each side to add detail. In the center of each flower is a small color detail to match your wedding colors.

Not only does it look amazing with long flowy hair, but it would also look incredible with a loose bun. Amazing!

Cupcake Inspiration: Blue and White

June 9, 2012

Yesterday we shared a gorgeous cake for you to get your wedding and pre-wedding event cake ideas from created by Susie of The Sweeter Things Blog. But that’s not all Susie made for that bridal shower.

As I mentioned, Susie spent two days working on all of her sweet treats for that shower. In addition to the two tiered cake, she also made matching cupcakes…and a lot of them!

So here’s a fabulous idea-don’t spend a ton of money on a huge cake. Go with a smaller cake (that can then be more fancy) and supplement with matching cupcakes! Personally I love it! AND instead of having a little table with the cake or only using the corner of a larger table…you can take over an entire large sized table with your goodies and make all of your guests drool the entire reception! They will never ever ever forget your grand sweets table.

Happy inspiring!

Cake Inspiration: Blue Flowers and White Swirls

June 8, 2012

Everybody has to get a snapshot of the cake at at wedding. When they bring the cake out all you see is a sea of iphones attached to your guest’s arms swarming the cake table. Obviously the cake is important.

So it’s only right that you would put some effort into creating the details of your cake. And that is why you need to do some research to find out what you like and what fits with your wedding’s theme.

My sister is quiet the accomplished baker. Right now she’s very into cupcakes and cakes. A few weeks ago she was given the task of creating the two tiered white and blue cake for my cousin’s bridal shower.

This is some great inspiration for you if colors happen to be blue! Or…you could always change the colors and use the style!

Now I know how much effort went into this cake because I watched her make it for two days (she also made a ton of cupcakes, etc) So I suggest you get a really nice image of the cake from your photog and put it in a really sweet hand written car for your baker once you’re back from the honeymoon to thank her/him. They put a ton of effort into that delicious piece of heaven wrapped in icing.
